Review of this first show as published in the L.A. Weekly's LaDeeDa column by Craig Lee... Local Happenings: We at L.A. Dee Da are no slouches when it comes to keeping your advised of the proper Party line. The biggest deal this week was the phenomenal success of Theoretical last Sunday. This afternoon party/show (a secret leather bar location described by its owner Michael as "left on Hoover, right into your life") featured the best set we've ever seen Red Wedding do. Wedding has a new member, Brian, who replaced their former drummer, Brian. (No they aren't Monty Python fans, it's just a conincidence.) Also appearing were Age of Consent, who drew howls of recognition from the audience, and the Hesitations, weird cracked duo made up of Priscilla B. and Mary Mullen. They had a wonderful song about all the things you could do with a toilet. The intense energy of the place rivalled the best nights at the Masque, Hong Kong, or Brave Dog. Fuck those auditoriums, theaters and bowls; it's the hot, smoky hole-in-the-walls that are still the best. Among those hanging out (and going to wild party down the street afterwards where people almost puched holes in the floors jumping to Clyde McPhatter's "60 Minute Woman." were Tomata Du Plenty, Paul Ambrose, Jane Cantillion, Hope (former DJ from the Bowling Club), Nervous Gender, Tony Pony, members of Johanna Went Band, Dean Chamberlain, Kerry McBride (the current cover girl for NOMAG) and Ron and Rozz of Christian Death. |
