These books are selected with the theoretical vision of an alternative culture of creativity and new art in mind. New ideas and the vast spectacle of what's been done are included in this small group. What have we missed?
It's all theoreticallygood stuff and if you order here you help support this site with a teenie commission AND books at a very good price. Okay, it's also a tacky attempt at defraying the costs of producing this site with E-commerce. Most orders get to you in just a few days. Is your credit card handy?
L.A. Artist Jim Shaw is prolific on many fronts. He documents his DREAMS in art and has documented that process in a book called DREAMS. Amazon.com says it's out of print but do try ordering it anyway. Jim assures us that there is still an inventory available...
Jim Shaw also collects. He collects art. Accessible and fantastic art. He collects art from Thrift Stores all over America. It's an unbelievable collection and, in its way, clearly an extension of DREAMS. The continuing act of collecting these "found objects" is in and of itself Jim Shaw's art, too.

Rock Pop & Alternative Music on the Internet
by Victoria Bell (1998)
The Early L.A. Punk Scene: This book really It's only here because so little documentation about this era exists. And this piece of shit obviously exploits that fact without even so much as an index to reference specific people and bands. To look at this one would think the punk movement was started and confined to Hollywood. Gary Leonard- an excellent photographer- is poorly represented with badly reproduced pictures. At $17.95 this is highway robbery.

is an astounding photographic essay of the theoretical vision of a genuine
anti-culture. The L.A. club scene, club culture and club people- with an
emphasis on Queer is what you'll find in this vast visual adventure.
